Tea for Three: Afternoon Tea at Tamburlaine Hotel

For Mother’s Day we decided to treat my beautiful mumma to a weekend away in Cambridge including a delicious afternoon tea at the Tamburlaine Hotel. The food was lovely but by far the best part of the experience was the interiors.

From the outside the Tamburlaine looks like any other hotel you might find near an inner city train station but the inside tells a very different story. The lobby is full of character with dark wood panelling, polished concrete and pops of brass. A real contrast to the garden room where afternoon tea is served. Plastered in pink and green palms the colonial, orangery feel is perfectly complimented with delicate deco details.

The star of the show is definitely the wallpaper from Iksel Decorative Arts.

The Bryan O’Sullivan Studio in charge of design at the hotel says the brief was to create “an oasis for people to come and pass away the hours, drinking tea and pretending they are somewhere else”. A brief I believe they more than exceeded.
