I have just come back from working on a shoot with some really beautiful modernist designs and now it seems everywhere I turn there is a loosely drawn face and brightly coloured shapes. The modernist trend is well and truly here but... is it here to stay?
What is modernism?
Drum roll please. This is about the only time in my life that I will be able to put my Fine Art degree to use. Modernism was a global movement in art and culture that began in the very late nineteenth century. It was a deliberate rejection of former artistic styles and was an outward response to social and political changes that came with the modern industrial society. So how does that translate to today's interiors?
This particular trend is definitely on the softer side of modernism using pastel colours and gold accents. Here are some of my favourite pieces. Do you love or hate it?
